VERSACE x THE MET GALA 2023
Highlighting Atelier Versace designs presented at the Met Gala 2023.
The Met Gala 2023 theme, entitled "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty," honours the work and life of designer Karl Lagerfeld, and sees Donatella Versace present a selection of custom Atelier Versace designs which bring together signatures of both Versace and Lagerfeld from across his career.
Anne Hathaway's custom Atelier Versace gown combined signatures of both Karl Lagerfeld's Chanel and Versace, referencing Karl and Donatella's shared design elegance, sensuality, and sense of fun. The figure-hugging and slashed gown references Versace silhouettes of the 1990s Supermodel era, while a construction of gold thread French tweed, featuring degradé embroidered ton-sur-ton paillette, and Swarovski crystal, recalls Lagerfeld's time at the House of Chanel. Chanel Camellia flowers decorate the bust. Embellishments include custom-made Medusa Safety Pins with pearls, and Medusa emblems. The pearl white color palette is in reference to bridal gowns of both Chanel and Versace. The gown is worn with matching long gloves and biker jacket.
